Linda we have known each other since Kindergarten and I've known Dave for 32 years and I could not think of a better match for you both. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this difficult time. I will always remember the first time Dave came to Arnprior, he was the " cute guy from Quebec with the cool car." All the girls loved him and the guys loved his cars. I will always remember his kindness and his big heart.

I had to think long and hard to remember the first time I met Dave - then it came to me and vision is as vivid as the day it happened. My father had just purchased the property in Northfield (in 1972 or 1973 when I was 10 or 11). My father decided one day that it was time to meet the new neighbours so we got into the car and drove over to the Brown’s. It was a bright sunny Sunday morning. How can I remember the day and the weather you ask? Well Dave was dressed in his Sunday best sitting on the big rock that’s in the lawn of the front yard playing with a magnifying glass trying to set something on fire. Little did I know that this would be the start of a most enjoyable and memorable journey… I have many, many found memories of David as we grew up together. I thought I would share a few with you… There was the countless hours spent together on the old Massey Harris tractor raking hay. I would lean on the big red fender as there was no where for a passenger to sit on this tractor and we would talk and laugh the summer days away (I am not sure how many brakes Doug had to put on that tractor but every time we got to the end of the row David would crank the steering wheel hard and apply the brake to one wheel and cause that old tractor to turn on a dime). I remember it was always a “special” treat when we got to use the Massey Ferguson 165 since it had power steering and square fenders where I could sit. There were the many nights sleeping in the tree house we built across the road from his house. I often wondered if our initials that we carved in the tree are still there??? There was the winter his brother Rick hired us to help him cut pulp wood (I can’t remember if Rick paid us???). It was so cold that winter that we would often arrive home with our faces frozen. People would laugh when they saw us come in because our faces were always frozen with BIG smiles on them… There were the many times we would take the snowmobiles to Lester’s farm to feed the cows. Dave on his Snow Cruiser and me on my uncle’s Motoski. Dave always made an adventure of these chores. There was always something to explore, always a time to have fun… We spent many, many hours driving those snowmobiles. Then Doug bought the Honda 90 motorcycle which started a whole new era of fun and independence. My father bought me a motorcycle and soon Tony and Michel had motorcycles as well. We spent hours and hours driving those bikes around Northfield. Dave taught me how to pop a wheelie on my motorcycle, how to do a cat walk on my motorcycle and even how to run and hide when the police would be chasing me on my motorcycle… Then came Dave’s first car – I believe it was a 1966 baby blue Plymouth Valiant (I hope I got the year and model right). If I remember correctly, it was his grandfather Brown’s old car. Dave fixed that thing up… In today’s language the kids would say he “pimped that ride”. It was complete with fuzzy dice, carpet on the dash, lights under the car, jacked up rear end, beefed up sound system (I’m talking 8 track tape…) and so much more. We had so much fun with that car… I never met a person that was so good at driving anything with a motor… And, so good at fixing anything - PERIOD. One time I was looking for someone to fix my son’s ATV so I immediately thought of Dave. So I looked for DAVID BROWN in the Arnprior phone book but could not find his number. So I phoned the first D Brown that was listed. When the person answered it became clear this was not Dave but the person that answered asked me who I was trying to reach. When I told him he said “You’re looking for Dave Brown the body man. Everyone knows Dave. I know his friend Rick so I’ll get Rick’s number and he will be able to help you…” And as happens all too often, we grew older and got busy with our own families and lives and did not see each other as often. But I always felt a special connection every time we would meet. It was a connection that only time could create. Dave was a truly a most special person. He touched the hearts and lives of so many people. But the things I will remember most about Dave were his smile - he always had a smile, and his generosity - you could always count on Dave to help you in your time of need. Dave, you will be missed but definitely not forgotten… And I wish you peace and happiness as you embark on this next journey… Your friend… Marc Cyr
