Obituary of Mike Kearns

January 30, 1941 - December 20, 2024

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Michael John Kearns, known to all as Mike, who left us peacefully on December 20, 2024.

Mike was born in Ottawa on January 30, 1941, to Michael and Mary Kearns (both predeceased), with siblings Patricia, Peter, and Joan.

Mike will be lovingly remembered by his wife of over 59 years, Carol (née Bova), and their children, Allison (married to Robert Munro) and Michael (married to Deanna Pidwerbeski).

He was a proud grandfather to Cole, Ben, Olivia, and Ella.

Mike spent most of his working life in the civil service as a skilled machinist. He had exceptional abilities with machines and a talent for building things.

Mike was known for his love of auto racing. He built cars in both Formula Ford and Formula Atlantic and also worked in the pits.

His passion for racing extended into his retirement, where he found thrills in go-kart racing.

For much of his life, Mike was an avid skier and spent many hours on the slopes with his family.

Mike was actively involved in amateur football for a number of years and was president of the Kanata March Hares football club, while also helping to coach teams his son Michael Jr. played on.

He also enjoyed fishing, tending to his garden and tinkering around the house.

Mike had a big heart, especially when it came to animals.

He cared for many cats over the years, including numerous strays that found their way into his care.

The family wishes to thank the nurses, PSW’s and staff at Forest Hill for their kindness as well as the great care they provided Mike during his stay there.

A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the animal charity, Furry Tales, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Rest in peace. You will always be in our hearts.
