Obituary of Margaret Roberts

ROBERTS, Margaret Leone (nee Lummis) (Formerly Margaret Roy) With heavy hearts we announce that Margaret, beloved wife of Bill Roberts, passed away peacefully while surrounded by her daughters at the Almonte General Hospital in the early hours of Saturday, December 21, 2019. She was 78 years of age. Dearly loved mother of Susan Koga (Ward) of Winnipeg; Theresa Roy (Hien Hoang) of Stittsville and stepmother to Jessica Roberts (Jason Dubois) of Ottawa. Predeceased by a stepdaughter, Jocelyn Roberts (Jas Buttar of Vancouver). Cherished Grandmother of Davis and Catherine Koga, Madeleine, Tai and Kobe Hoang, Brier Finn, Piper and Phoebe Dubois. Dear sister of Florence Roy (late André). Margaret was born and raised in Kenora, Ontario and studied Nursing at Children’s Hospital in Winnipeg. After obtaining her Masters in Nursing at the University of Iowa, she returned to Winnipeg and taught Nursing at Health Sciences Centre School of Nursing for almost 20 years. Margaret caught the travel bug later in life and used her background in Nursing to work as a volunteer in Guyana for 6 weeks, then moved to Saudi Arabia for 5 years to develop Nursing Education programs in Riyadh and Jeddah. She also travelled extensively in Europe, Asia, Africa, South America and the Middle East and was always interested in learning about other people and different cultures. After returning from Saudi Arabia in 2002, she devoted herself to being the world’s best Grandma with the arrival of Davis and, to her delight, an ever expanding brood of grandkids. Luck smiled on her in 2005 when she reconnected with her high school sweetheart Bill Roberts, who she married in 2007. She frequently referred to Bill as the love of her life, and the two were inseparable from that moment on. We will all miss Margaret’s beautiful smile, frequent laughter and wicked sense of humour. She was a wonderful cook, talented artist, devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and respected intellectual. She also gave the most delicious hugs and had a seemingly infinite capacity to make those around her feel loved and cherished. Margaret’s final care has been entrusted to the Pilon Family Funeral Home and Chapel Ltd., 50 John Street North, Arnprior. Margaret’s life will be celebrated with family and friends in Ottawa, Winnipeg and Vancouver, over the next few months.
